Tschaikowskys Serenade für Streicher in C-Dur zählt zu den Kompositionen, die unsere Vorstellung von Spätromantik am meisten geprägt haben, und sie ist eines der beliebtesten Werke des Komponisten. Bartóks anmutendes Divertimento passt dazu gut: äußerst originell und mit einer ganz eigenen Sprache gehört es zu den letzten Werken, die Bartók vor seiner Emigration aus Ungarn 1940 komponierte.
