Obwohl bislang selten eingespielt gehört Martinus 1952 entstandenes Rhapsodie-Konzert für Viola und Orchester zu den zentralen Repertoirestücken für dieses Instrument. Mit dem Werk begann Martinu seine letzte größere stilistische Entwicklung in Richtung Neoromantik. Seine Fähigkeit, extensive lyrische Passagen aufzubauen, die in einem katharsisartigen Höhepunkt enden, wird hier exemplarisch vorgeführt. Mikhail Zemtsov macht sich zusammen mit Neeme Järvi und dem Estonian National Symphony Orchestra für das Werk stark. Hochwillkommen ist auch die Einspielung der beiden Suiten aus der Ballettoper Spalícek (1932).
