Lutosławski war nicht nur eines der wenigen wirklichen Genies der Avantgarde, sondern zeitweise ein veritabler Popstar der 68er-Generation und seine Musik wurde in vielen Filmen und über Jahrzehnte auch für den Vorspann des Politmagazins »ZDF-Magazin« eingesetzt.
