Manolis Kalomiris gilt als Vater der modernen griechischen Musik. Seine Ideale waren von Anfang an von dem Wunsch geprägt, eine griechische Nationalschule zu gründen, und seine Hingabe an die Bildung spiegelt sich in den hervorragend gestalteten Bänden »Für griechische Kinder« wider, die er im Laufe seines Lebens schrieb.
Dies ist die erste und einzige Veröffentlichung seiner kompletten Soloklaviermusik auf CD. Auf Naxos gibt es in der Reihe »Greek Classics« zwei Orchesteralben mit Werken von Kalomiris, die Dritte Symphonie, die von MusicWeb International als »wunderschön und kraftvoll packend« beschrieben wird, und ein weiteres Programm mit Orchestrierungen der beiden Klavierrhapsodien.
