The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Mit der dritten Sonate hatte Plowright seine Gesamtaufnahme begonnen und sich das Erstlingswerk des Komponisten für die letzte SACD der Serie aufgehoben. Brahms hatte diese Sonate bei sich, als er im Oktober 1853 Robert und Clara Schumann in Düsseldorf besuchte.
Und vielleicht war es diese Sonate, deren Beginn an Beethovens Hammerklaviersonate erinnert, die Schumann veranlasste, Brahms als »jungen Adler« und »wahren Apostel« zu feiern. Bald nach diesem Besuch verschlechterte sich Schumanns Geisteszustand (bis hin zum Selbstmordversuch im Februar 1854). Im selben Jahr schrieb Brahms seine Schumann-Variationen, diese Ereignisse reflektierend.
Schumann starb zwei Jahre später, doch Clara und Brahms blieben enge Freunde. Über 40 Jahre später war Clara Schumann unter den ersten Personen, denen Brahms die Fantasien op. 116 zeigte und die sie als »wunderbar originell« bezeichnete.
