Timo Ruottinens "Uspenie Vigil" wurde zwischen 1984 und 2019 geschaffen, und seine früheren Teile wurden bereits aufgeführt und aufgenommen. Die erste Version des gesamten Werks wurde zum 150. Jahrestag der Uspenski-Kathedrale im Jahr 2018 fertiggestellt und ein großer Teil davon wurde vom Chor der Uspenski-Kathedrale unter der Leitung von Varvara Merras-Hayrynen gesungen. Die Vigilia ist der Grundstein der orthodoxen Musik, aus der Komponisten wie Tschaikowsky, Rachmaninoff und Rautavaara künstlerisch gestaltete Kompositionen geschaffen haben. Eine vollständig komponierte Uspenie-Vigil ist heute eine Seltenheit. Ruottinens Vigil kann als gut komponiertes Ganzes charakterisiert werden, das den Anforderungen des finnischen Gottesdienstes entspricht. Das Werk, das über vierzig Jahre gereift ist, enthält Lieder mit ganz unterschiedlichem Stil, die sich dennoch in verschiedene Traditionen der orthodoxen Musik einordnen lassen.
