Radulescu begann in den 1970er Jahren mit der Komposition »plasmatischer Musik«, wie er sie nannte. Klang verstand er dabei als »unendlichen Ozean aus Vibrationen« und entzog sich damit dem gängigen Verständnis von Klang als einer Abfolge von Skalenschritten. Seine Musik gehört damit zur Schule der »Spektralmusik«. Das 5. Streichquartett ist dabei eines der Schlüsselwerke, und in der 5. Klaviersonate nimmt er in besonderem Maß Bezug auf rumänische Volksmusik.
