Der aus der Ukraine stammende Boris Pigovat ist heute in Israel ansässig, wo er mehrere bedeutende nationale Auszeichnungen erhalten hat. Sein Holocaust-Requiem wurde 1995 mit dem ACUM-Preis ausgezeichnet und in einem Konzert, das dem Massaker an Juden in Babi Yar gewidmet war, uraufgeführt. Jeder Satz ist nach dem Text der lateinischen Messe benannt, den emotionalen Symbolen von Trauer, Leid und Hoffnung, die rein instrumental ausgedrückt, aber von der "menschlichen" Stimme der Bratsche geleitet werden. Der bewusst russisch-romantische Stil des Gedichts der Morgendämmerung wurde vom Komponisten speziell für die Widmung des Werkes durch die gefeierte Bratschistin Anna Serowa gewählt.

Of Ukrainian origin, Boris Pigovat is now based in Israel where he has won several distinguished national awards. His Holocaust Requiem received the ACUM prize in 1995, and was premièred at a concert dedicated to the massacre of Jews at Babi Yar. Each movement is named after the Latin Mass text, the emotional symbols of sorrow, suffering and hope expressed purely instrumentally but led by the ‘human’ voice of the viola. The deliberately Russian Romantic style of Poem of Dawn was especially chosen by the composer for the work’s dedicatee, acclaimed violist Anna Serova.
