Einer der vollkommensten Musiker des Elisabethanischen und Jakobinischen Zeitalters war ohne Zweifel Orlando Gibbons. Zu jedem Genre der vokalen und instrumentalen Musik hat Gibbons seinen Beitrag geleistet. Im Bereich der Fantasien für Gamben hat er zahlreiche Werke für Kombinationen von zwei bis sechs Instrumenten geschrieben und dabei nahezu grenzenlos fantasievolle Strukturen geschaffen, die eindeutige Spuren des italienischen Stils aufweisen. Das Ensemble L’Achéron präsentiert auf der vorliegenden Aufnahme eine breite Auswahl dieses Repertoires, gespielt auf Gamben-Kopien des 17. Jahrhunderts.
