Diese LP ist Teil der zweiten Mercury Living Presence-Reihe, die insgesamt fünf Vinyl-Veröffentlichungen umfasst. Mercury Living Presence gilt als ein Meilenstein innerhalb der klassischen Aufnahmegeschichte. Die LPs von Mercury Living Presence waren von Anfang an beliebte Sammlerstücke, und auch 70 Jahre nach den ersten Veröffentlichungen wird das Label für seine Qualität der Aufnahmen und deren „lebendige Gegenwärtigkeit“ bewundert. Byron Janis' virtuose Aufnahme von Mussorgskys „Bilder einer Ausstellung“, die erstmals 1994 auf CD veröffentlicht wurde, kommt nun endlich auch auf Vinyl heraus. Die Einspielung entstand vom 25. bis 29. September 1961 im Fine Recording Ballroom Studio A, aufgenommen mit drei Schoeps M201 Mikrofonen.
