Der polnische Pianist und Komponist Michał Bergson (1820–1898) studierte in Dessau und Berlin. Bereits als Jugendlicher korrespondierte er u. a. mit Robert Schumann. Nach Jahren in Paris und London wurde er 1863 Professor am Konservatorium in Genf. Obwohl zutiefst der Romantik eines Mendelssohn oder Schumann verpflichtet, erklingen hier keine epigonenhaften Kopien, sondern ein eigenständiger Romantiker.
