Friedrich Kuhlau (1786-1832) war die kosmopolitischste Persönlichkeit der dänischen Musik zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts, und als kreativer, weitsichtiger und ungemein produktiver Komponist war seine Feder selten untätig. Die beiden Klavierquartette, die das erstmals auftretende Kopenhagener Klavierquartett auf dieser CD eingespielt hat, sind Hauptwerke aus dem künstlerisch fruchtbarsten Jahrzehnt des Komponisten und zeugen auch von Kuhlaus eigenen brillanten Fähigkeiten als Pianist.
