Erst nach und nach wird in Deutschland die gesamte Bandbreite der französischen Musik des späten 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhunderts wahrgenommen. Zu den lohnenswerten Entdeckungen gehört auch die Musik von Théodore Dubois (1837-1924). Er war Rompreisträger, Organist u. a. am Invalidendom und Direktor am Pariser Conservatoire.
