Edward Gregson (*1945) ist einer der vielseitigsten Komponisten seiner Generation in Großbritannien. Anders als vielen seiner kontinentaleuropäischen Komponistenkollegen gelingt es ihm, mit seinen Kompositionen immer wieder auch ein breites, oft nur wenig avantgardeerprobtes Publikum anzusprechen. Freilich ohne dabei seine künstlerische Integrität dieser Allgemeinverständlichkeit zu opfern und in platte Gefälligkeit zu verfallen. Auch die vierte Folge der Gregson-Serie bei CHANDOS bietet wieder ein abwechslungsreiches Programm aus Orchesterwerken und Bläserkonzerten – dem ausgewiesenen Spezialgebiet des Komponisten.
