Als der große Henry Purcell 1695 im Alter von vermutlich nur 36 Jahren plötzlich verstarb, war die Trauer ungeheuer groß. Sein ehemaliger Lehrer John Blow schuf ihm zu Ehren eine der schönsten Gedächtnisoden der Musikgeschichte, die „Ode on the Death of Mr Henry Purcell“. Das Vokal- und Instrumental-Ensemble Les Goûts-Authentiques um den belgischen Cembalisten Jan Devlieger stellt diese betörende Ode in den Mittelpunkt seiner jüngsten Aufnahme. Daneben erklingen Werke von Purcell selbst sowie von Jeremiah Clarke, Jean-Baptiste Lully, William Croft und Gottfried Finger.
