In der dritten Folge des Zyklus’ aller Schubert-Sinfonien wenden sich Edward Gardner und das CBSO der ersten und vierten Sinfonie zu. Demonstriert der sinfonische Erstling von 1813 bereits in bewundernswerter Weise das Verständnis des jungen Schubert für die sinfonische Form und Technik, ist die drei Jahre später entstandene 4. Sinfonie schon sehr nahe am Stil seiner späteren sinfonischen Werke.
