Die neueste CD von La Serenissima dreht sich um Nicola Matteis den Jüngeren (ca. 1670–1737). Der in London als Sohn des Italieners Nicola Matteis Geborene wuchs mit der Musik Purcells auf, bevor er 1700 England verließ und an den Kaiserhof in Wien ging. Die Musik auf dem Album ist »karolingisch«; sie wurde entweder für Charles II. von England oder für Kaiser Karl VI. geschrieben. Man könnte meinen, dass der englische Stil und englische Musiker im frühen 18. Jahrhundert auf dem Kontinent unbekannt waren, aber diese Auswahl zeigt, dass dies nicht (immer) der Fall war.
