Joe Hisaishi, Japans einflussreichster Komponist für Film und klassische Musik, veröffentlicht A Symphonic Celebration, sein Debüt bei Deutsche Grammophon. Es erscheint als 180g high-quality Doppelvinyl im Gatefold.
Hisaishis Klangschöpfungen wurden zum Synonym für die erfolgreichen Animefilme des oscargekrönten Regisseurs, Animators und Studio-Ghibli-Gründers Hayao Miyazaki.
Schon in den 1980er-Jahren begann ihre kreative Partnerschaft, heute wird sie in einem Atemzug genannt mit legendären Duos wie Hitchcock und Herrmann oder Spielberg und Williams. Nun sind die Studio-Ghibli-Hits in symphonischen Arrangements zu hören, darunter Soundtracks von Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland, Prinzessin Mononoke oder Mein Nachbar Totoro. Hisaishi hat sie in London mit dem Royal Philharmonic Orchestra unter eigener Leitung eingespielt. Zu Gast sind Grace Davidson, Avi Avital, The Bach Choir und Stephen Morris.

Why is it not possible to deliver a clean album

Why always ticks and dust.
We pay high prices but get poor dirty records.
Clean them before you deliver to your customers.

Rauscht und springt

Ich habe die Schallplatte aus dem Deutsche Grammophon Shop und der Schock kam nach Erhalt: Die Schallplatte rauscht und springt. Ich habe einen Einsteigerschallplattenspieler (Teac TN 175), bei dem das Auflagegewicht der Nadel nicht eingestellt werden kann. Ich weiß nicht, ob es daran liegt, ich kann nur sagen, dass ich bei keiner anderen Schallplatte (neu und alt, dick und dünn) derartige Problem hatte. Zu der Musik muss nicht viel gesagt werden, der Soundtrack von Ghibli-Filmen ist wunderschön. Es sind aber keine Überraschungen zu erwarten und warum einige Texte etwas banal ins Englisch übertragen wurden, erschließt sich auch nicht. Dennoch, der Hauptkritikpunkt betrifft die Qualität der Pressung. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Joe, get your files to Emil Berliner!

Joe Hisaishi writes beautiful, uplifting music.

But the DG vinyl edition is a disaster. The sound is flat, without dynamics, as if filtered through some cloth. Did Floating Earth über-mike the recording, in the worst DG 1970's tradition? Or did DG nonchalantly transfer to vinyl, eager to cash-in on the vinyl craze? In principle, vinyl sounds much more organic than cd. Here the contrary might be the case. Tragic.

I noticed the same on DG's Balmorhea lp. I characterised the sound as "wet squid". There is a trend here. Beware of new DG vinyl editions!

I checked with similar fairy music. Ravel/ Mère l'Oie/Boulez/ Berliner Philharmoniker. I have a 180gr DG re-edition. Stunning.

Conclusion:

1. Joe, run with your files to Emil Berliner for an audiophile vinyl cutting and pressing. They might save your lovely recording. Your music is worth it!

2. DG, stop taking vinylistas for a ride. I for one will no longer buy new DG vinyl projects, except for the Original Source project.

I hope these comments will reach Joe Hisaishi somehow. He is entitled to know.

leicht und richtig gut

Leichte Musik in exzellenter Qualität. Die Neueinspielung durch Hisaishi selbst ist gelungen. Klangqualität ist hervorragend. Aus meiner Sicht eine Bereicherung, auch wenn wenig Neues zu hören ist.

Wer noch nicht …

… eine CD mit dieser Musik hat wird zufriedenstellend bedient. Ich bin Sammler und kenne noch andere Aufnahmen mit den Gimbli Highlights. Diese Aufnahme ist mir insgesamt etwas zu kühl und zu routiniert auch wenn der Meister selbst den Dirigentenstock schwingt.
