Dem Zürcher Choregraphen Heinz Spoerli ist mit seiner Transposition des Stoffes in die Welt des Balletts ein großer Wurf gelungen. Das von der bösen Stiefmutter zur Magd erniedrigte Aschenbrödel wird hier zur degradierten Primaballerina, die ihren beiden stets streitenden Stiefschwestern dienen muss – sie werden in ihrer Plumpheit unnachahmlich komisch durch zwei Tänzer dargestellt. Der Prinz ist ein berühmter Tänzer, der in Aschenbrödel seine ideale Partnerin erkennt und sie schließlich aus ihrer Knechtschaft befreit. Unter der Leitung des russischen Meisterdirigenten Wladimir Fedossejew wird diese Produktion darüber hinaus auch musikalisch zu einem exquisiten Genuss.
