Wie die Kompositionen von William Hayes beweisen, sind im England des 18. Jahrhunderts neben den dominierende Werken Händels immer noch überraschende Kostbarkeiten zu finden. Hayes Kantatenzyklus bietet ebenso originelle wie humorvolle Geschichten, ungewohnte Instrumentierungen und berührende musikalische Momente. Tonarten und Orchestrierung steigern sich von Stück zu Stück. Ergänzt wird die Schatzgrabung durch eine Ode über Orpheus und Eurydike. Anthony Rooley und sein sorgfältig ausgewähltes Vokal- und Instrumentalensemble tragen dazu bei, dass dieser Komponist wieder so wahrgenommen wird, wie er es verdient hat: als einer der wichtigsten englischen Zeitgenossen Händels.
