Die Karriere des dänischen Komponisten Vagn Holmboe währte bereits ein halbes Jahrhundert als er begann, Werke für Gitarre zu schreiben. Völlig eingenommen von diesem „alten“ Instrument, komponierte Holmboe zwei wunderbare Sonaten, eine Reihe von Solostücken sowie Duette für Gitarre und diverse Instrumente. Dabei kombinierte er seine Vorliebe für einfache Formen, transparente Strukturen und organische musikalische Entwicklung mit folkloristischen Elementen fremder Kulturen und seinen eigenen nordischen Wurzeln.
