2010 konnte der dreihunderste Geburtstag von Thomas Augustin Arne begangen werden, hier dargestellt durch eine Reihe von Ouvertüren und Kantaten aus den Jahren 1748 bis 1771. Arne war von großem Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der englischen Musik; er führte sie hinaus aus den älteren Traditionen des Barock und vor allem weg vom allgegenwärtigen Händel. Er pflegte einen Stil, der zwar noch die Traditionen der italienischen Oper kannte, aber doch ganz englisch war. Arne war somit ein Zuarbeiter für die Frühklassik eines Johann Christian Bach; noch deutlicher als in seinen Ouvertüren wird dies in den Kantaten.
