Prokofieffs Fünfte Symphonie ist eingängig, voller melodischer Einfälle und doch transparent. Sie ist episch im besten Wortsinn und in ihrer Zielgerichtetheit überwältigend. Seine »Ode an das Ende des Krieges« op. 105 weist eine wirklich außergewöhliche Besetzung auf. Prokofieff schrieb das Stück für 8 Harfen, 4 Klaviere, Blasorchester, Schlaginstrumente und 8 Kontrabässe. Gelingt es erst einmal, sich in den ungewohnten, stählernen, teils harschen Klang hineinzuarbeiten, so erschließt sich ein unnachahmliches Hörerlebnis.
