Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876) war sicherlich einer der kontroversesten Charaktere der englischen Kirchenmusik im 19. Jahrhundert. Trotz ständiger Querelen mit den kirchlichen Autoritäten kommt ihm das Verdienst zu, den Stil der englischen Kirchenmusik im 19. Jahrhundert maßgeblich erneuert zu haben. Der berühmte Choir of St John's College unter Andrew Nethsingha hat hier einige seiner geistlichen Werke für CHANDOS eingespielt.
