Der Film zeigt die große Sopranistin in der Reife ihrer Künstlerschaft. 1984, nach elf Jahren erstmals wieder in Japan im Konzertsaal, war sie 50 Jahre alt – 32 davon hat sie auf der Bühne verbracht. Das umfangreiche Programm springt durch die Zeiten und Stile und zeigt so die Künstlerin in all ihren Facetten. Verblüffend, wie leicht sie auf der Basis ihrer exzellenten Technik und ihrer großen Musikalität diese Stilwechsel beherrscht. Am beeindruckendsten ist sie vielleicht in Liszts Petrarca-Sonnetten, wo sie mit einer unglaublichen Farbenpalette aufwartet.
