Magin ist eher in Frankreich als in seinem Geburtsland Polen bekannt, denn dort verbrachte er die meiste Zeit seines Lebens. Doch leugnete er nie seine Herkunft; in seinen Werken finden sich viele Anklänge an polnische Folklore. Er war ausgebildeter Pianist und Komponist und ab 1957 als Interpret auf Welttournee. Ab 1960 ließ er sich dauerhaft in Paris nieder, wo er als Lehrer am Rachmaninov Konservatorium arbeitete.
