Anlässlich des 20-jährigen Bestehens des Balletts von Monte Carlo, das 1985 dank der Prinzessin von Hannover zu neuem Leben erweckt wurde, entwickelte der international gefragte Choreograph Jean-Christophe Maillot das Ballett Le Songe. Erstmals 2005 aufgeführt, basiert das Stück auf Shakespeares’ Sommernachtstraum und erfährt eine gelungene und fantasievolle Neuinszenierung des Klassikers. Maillot vereint in seiner Choreographie den klassischen Tanz mit abstrakten Bewegungen. Für Kontrast zur romantischen Musik von Felix Mendelssohn sorgen zudem die Werke der beiden zeitgenössischen Komponisten Daniel Teruggi und Bertrand Maillot. Einige Jahre nach der Uraufführung verfilmte Jean-Christoph Maillot das Ballett; diese Aufnahme liegt nun auf DVD und Blu-ray vor.
