Anders als sein Jugendfreund Guillels war Richter kein glühender Anhänger von Brahms’ Repertoire.
Er behandelte ihn wie einen Dichter in romantischer Osmose mit Chopin und Schumann, nicht wie einen schüchternen Nachfolger Beethovens. 1948 spielte Richter nur das berühmte Konzert in B-Dur op. 81.
Dieses seltene Konzert lässt den jungen Pianisten Brahms eher als intuitiven, ja prophetischen Komponisten denn als bloßen Diskursor erscheinen. ED.
