Vittorio Ghielmi und sein Ensemble »Il Suonar Parlante« stellen mit den besonderen Klangfarben ihrer Gamben und virtuosem Spiel vierzehn Fantasias von Henry Purcell vor. In den Fantasien brilliert Purcell als Komponist mit reichen und kühnen harmonischen Effekten und kontrapunktischer Imitation, die im Hörer eine gefühlvoll-aufgeladene Stimmung erzeugen und eine musikalische Sachlichkeit oder Neutralität völlig ablegen. Das polyphone Gewebe der kurzen Stücke erinnert zudem an die italienische Madrigalkunst, die Purcell durch das langjährige Kopieren von Werken Monteverdis in seinen Ausbildungsjahren an der Chapel Royal studiert hat.
