Nach dem überwältigenden Erfolg von VSPRS, einem Projekt nach der Marienvesper Monteverdis, haben sich der Altsaxophonist und Komponist Fabrizio Cassol und der Choregraph Alain Platel erneut für ein spannendes Projekt zusammengetan. Diesmal unterziehen sie Bachs Matthäuspassion einer musikalischen Transposition, die mit dem Begriff „verjazzen“ nur sehr ungenügend umschrieben wäre. Cassols „Re-Orchestrierung“ vermischt nämlich Einflüsse aus Jazz, Manouche, Mali und Blues zu einer neuartigen Sichtweise auf dieses Werk. Im Mittelpunkt von Cassols Neudeutung stehen jetzt die Schmerzen einer Mutter angesichts der Opferung ihres Sohnes. Der erfolgreichen Bühnenproduktion in nahezu vierzig Städten auf der ganzen Welt folgt jetzt das nicht weniger aufwühlende CD-Album. Mit Laura Claycomb und Aka Moon konnten dabei erneut bedeutende Interpreten der Klassik- und Jazzszene gewonnen werden.
