Ervín Schulhoff wuchs in einer deutschsprachigen jüdischen Familie in Prag auf. Seine musikalische Begabung wurde früh entdeckt und gefördert und er studierte unter anderem bei Max Reger.
1941 wurde Schulhoff inhaftiert und starb ein Jahr später im Konzentrationslager Wülzburg. Schulhoff war ein brillanter Pianist, was man anhand der auf dieser CD dargestellten Klavierstücke nachvollziehen kann. Er wurde unter anderem vom Jazz und der Avantgarde beeinflusst.
