Mit der Einspielung von „The Apostels“ präsentiert Hallé das einleitende Werk des von Edward Elgar ursprünglich dreiteilig angelegten Oratorien-Zyklus über die Apostel und die Gründung der Christlichen Kirche. Nachdem bereits „The Kingdom“, der zweite Teil der unvollendet gebliebenen Trilogie, bei Publikum wie Kritikern einhellige Begeisterung hervorgerufen hat, stellen Sir Mark Elder und „sein“ Hallé-Ensemble einmal mehr unter Beweis, dass sie in Sachen Elgar-Interpretation weltweit nahezu konkurrenzlos sind. Durch die intensive Beschäftigung mit der von Elgar selbst dirigierten Fassung von 1921 gelingt Elder eine authentische Einspielung, die sich ganz eng an den Intentionen des Komponisten orientiert und von einem tiefen Verständnis der Struktur im Ganzen und der Bedeutung jedes einzelnen Details geprägt ist.
