„Musik aus und für Venedig“ könnte der Untertitel dieser Produktion sein, die sich der damals in Italien noch nicht so sehr geschätzten Besetzung der Sonate mit Holzblasinstrumenten annimmt. Und Venedig selbst spielte eine bedeutende Rolle in der Entwicklung der Instrumentalmusik für Blasinstrumente. Alle hier berücksichtigten Komponisten standen mit der Republik von Venedig in Kontakt, durch Geburt, Studien oder Besuche.
