Es gab tatsächlich mal eine Zeit, in der man selbst in Amerika im Fernsehen zur besten Sendezeit hochkarätige Klassik zu sehen bekam. Heute würde es wahrscheinlich nicht einmal ein Dirigent vom Range eines Arturo Toscanini auf einen Sendeplatz vor 23Uhr schaffen. In den späten Vierzigern und frühen Fünfzigern war aber genau das möglich. Zwischen 1948 und 1952 zeichnete Toscanini für die NBC fünf Konzerte in der New Yorker Carnegie Hall und in den NBC Studios fünf Fernsehkonzerte auf, die Testament 2006 auf DVD veröffentlichte.
