Im letzten Viertel des 16. Jahrhunderts, als die großen Organisten der venezianischen Schule (Andrea Gabrieli, Claudio Merulo usw.) auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Karriere waren, traten in Neapel die ersten bedeutenden Persönlichkeiten (unter anderem Giovanni Maria Trabaci und Ascanio Maione) einer neuen Ära der Tastenmusik auf, die bis zur Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts andauerte.
Nicht lange nach der Veröffentlichung von Ricercate e Fantasie von Rocco Rodio im Jahr 1575 erschien 1576 Intavolatura de Cimbalo von Antonio Valente in Neapel.
Das Frontispiz verrät uns, dass der Autor blind war und Organist an der Kirche Sant’Angelo a Nilo war.
