Marin Alsop und The Baltimore Symphony setzten ihre überaus erfolgreiche und hoch gelobte Serie mit Dvorak Sinfonien fort und präsentieren auf der vorliegen CD die Sechste, mit der der Komponist seinem Mentor Brahms und der Volksmusik seiner böhmischen Heimat Tribut zollt.
Das Scherzo Capriccioso entstand in weniger als einem Monat im April 1883 und bezaubert besonders durch das wunderschöne Walzer-Thema in den Streichern. Den langsamen Satz seines Vierten Streichquartetts arrangierte Dvorak für Streicher zum hier ebenfalls vorliegenden Nocturne.
