Die Aufführung von Beethovens Symphonie Nr. 9 am Gewandhaus Leipzig geriet im wiedervereinten Deutschland zu einem grandiosen Erfolg für Kurt Masur, der 1970-1996 Gewandhauskapellmeister war und das Orchester vor und nach dem Mauerfall entscheidend geprägt hat.
