Zu Lebzeiten war der Sohn eines reichen Hamburger Kaufmanns ein produktiver und überaus erfolgreicher Komponist. Seine zwölf Cembalosuiten sind hochattraktive Musik voll einfallsreicher Melodik mit einer ausgeprägten Sanglichkeit, spielerischer Brillanz und Wärme. Alessandro Simonetto, wie Mattheson selbst ein vielseitig interessierter Musiker und Produzent, hat die Suiten auf dem Nachbau eines Ruckers-Cembalos neu aufgenommen.
