Klappentext
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Xenocyon lycaonoides or the African Wolf is an extinct canid endemic to Europe, Eurasia, and Asia, during the Pleistocene living from 1.8 Ma-126, 000 years ago and existed for approximately 1.674 million years. It preyed on antelopes, deer, elephant calves, aurochs, baboons, wild horses and perhaps humans. It was probably the ancestor of the African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus) and possibly the Dhole (Cuon alpinus) of south-east Asia and the extinct Sardinian Dhole (Cynotherium sardous). The generic assignment of X. lycaonoides is controversial. As an alternative to its placement in Xenocyon, some recent authorities have placed the species in Lycaon (with the African Wild Dog) or Canis (with wolves and jackals).
