S. historic district in Venice, Florida. It is bounded by Palermo Street, Sorrento Street, South Harbor Drive, and Salerno Street, encompasses approximately 550 acres (2.2 km2), and contains 47 historic buildings. On December 18, 1989, it was added to the U. S. National Register of Historic Places. A historic district in the United States is a group of buildings, properties or sites that have been designated by one of several entities on different levels as historically or architecturally significant. Buildings, structures, objects and sites within a historic district are normally divided into two categories, contributing and non-contributing.
