The municipal works yard is the hub of local public services: this is where organization, technology, and operational readiness come together. Whether as a storage site for construction materials, for road maintenance, green space care, or winter services - the works yard ensures every day that cities and municipalities function. Building on this role, the site - reimagined as a "conversion yard" (Umbauhof) - could also play a central role in the reuse of building components and in reducing construction waste.

In a pilot project, these potentials were tested in practice through temporary pop-up conversion yards. The book documents this practical trial and demonstrates the possibilities of this infrastructure for resource-efficient building practices. Complemented by guest contributions, it brings together different perspectives and presents the conversion yard as a transferable model. At the same time, it offers an impulse for a construction practice that actively shapes material cycles.
