Klappentext
"Richard L. Neuberger is a consequential but forgotten figure in Oregon history, largely due to his death at only 47, near the end of his only term in the senate. His importance and influence was not just a matter of "firsts." He was ahead of his time in his advocacy of conservation, his political partnership with Maurine, and his outspoken liberal advocacy at a time when Oregon was considerably more conservative than it is today. His election to the senate moved Oregon from a solidly Republican state to one where liberal Democrats could control the legislature as well as statewide offices. Tom McCall, later one of the most influential governors in the state's history, considered Neuberger his role model as a conservationist. Stephen Forrester is in a unique position to tell Neuberger's story. He knew Neuberger as a child and later served as a senate page, appointed by Maurine. He began the interviews and research for this project in 1978 and his long association with the major players in Neuberger's life has paid off in a wealth of primary source material"-- Provided by publisher.
