Shkaku was a 30, 000-ton aircraft carrier class of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Only two vessels were built in this class - Shkaku and Zuikaku. Together they formed the 5th Carrier Division. Both were lost in action during World War II. The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN), literally Navy of the Empire of Greater Japan was the navy of the Empire of Japan from 1869 until 1947, when it was dissolved following Japan's constitutional renunciation of the use of force as a means of settling international disputes.
