Richard Matheson wurde 1926 in New Jersey geboren und studierte Journalismus. Sein schriftstellerisches Werk umfaßt mehrere Sammlungen von Kurzgeschichten und etlichen Romane. Für zahlreich preisgekrönte Filme sowie für die Verfilmung einiger seiner eigenen Romane schrieb er als Drehbuch. Sein umfassendes Gesamtwerk wurde mehrfach mit renomierten Preisen ausgezeichnet. Richard Matheson lebt seit 1951 mit seiner Familie in Kalifornien.
