Raigarh is the district headquarters. The languages spoken in the district are Chhattisgarhi, Oriya and Hindi. The district was formed by merging the states of princely states of Raigarh, Sarangarh, Udaipur (Dharamjaigarh) and Jashpur. Jashpur is now a separate district.
