Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pocahontas: The Legend is a 1995 drama film that fictionalizes the young life of the historical figure of Chief Powhatan's daughter Pocahontas and her relationship with Captain John Smith. This film was directed by Danièle J. Suissa and stars Sandrine Holt as the titular heroine. It was shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This is the second feature film based on the life of Pocahontas and John Smith that was released in 1995, the other being Disney's animated feature, Pocahontas. Both films feature Gordon Tootoosis. John Rolfe, the husband of Pocahontas, does not appear in this motion picture. Chief Powhatan (c. June 17, 1545 - c. 1618), whose proper name was Wahunsenacawh or (in seventeenth century English spelling) Wahunsunacock, was the leader of the Powhatan (also spelled Powatan and Powhaten), a powerful tribe of Virginia Indians, as well as an associated confederacy of numerous tribes speaking Algonquian languages, known as the Powhatan Confederacy. He lived in Tenakomakah- which is now Tidewater Virginia-at the time of the first English-Native encounters.
