Klappentext
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Pocahontas Stakes is a Grade III race held every year at Louisville, Kentucky's Churchill Downs fall meet. Open only to two-year-old Thoroughbred fillies, it's set at a distance of one mile (eight furlongs) on the dirt, and offers a purse of $100, 000. Run in honor, perhaps, of both Pocahontas, the Indian maiden, as well as Pocahontas, the daughter of Glencoe. Pocahontas (1837-1870) was one of England's greatest "blue hen" mares, producing, in particular, three sons who influenced the breed enormously: Stockwell, Rataplan, and King Tom. The Pocahontas will be in its 40th running in 2010. A graded stakes race is a term applied by the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association to thoroughbred horse races in the United States and Canada to describe races that derive their name from the stake, or entry fee, owners must pay.
