Kyung-Sook Shin geboren 1963, ist verheiratet und wohnt in Pyeongchang-dong, einem Teil von Seoul. Ihre Mutter lebt immer noch in Chongup, einem Dorf im Südwesten der koreanischen Halbinsel, in dem Haus, in dem Shin geboren wurde. In Korea ist Shin eine Autorin mit einem Millionenpublikum.
