"The other CoSMoS" presents a comprehensive alternative to the dominant mechanistic-materialistic world-picture of modernity. Drawing on Goethe, Nietzsche, Giordano Bruno, and his own "radial field theory", Kirchhoff argues that the universe is not an empty, dead space but a living, soul-imbued and spiritual organism in which humanity, as the "cosmic anthropos", remains essentially embedded. Key concepts include the "radial field" (in place of linear causality), the "light of nature" as the primordial source of consciousness, and the overcoming of the Copernican trauma that banished Earth and human beings from the centre of being. The book sharply critiques the reductionism of the natural sciences, the theory of relativity, the Big Bang hypothesis, and, above all, nuclear power as expressions of a Promethean, life-denying attitude. At the same time, it offers positive impulses for an expanded consciousness that regards art, music, and mystical experience as pathways to reclaiming the "other cosmos". The reader finds a passionate plea for a return to a holistic, meaning-giving understanding of the world that once again thinks nature, spirit, and cosmos together as a living whole.
Biografie
Der Philosoph Jochen Kirchhoff (geb. 1944) hat sich in der kulturell kreativen Denklandschaft einen Höhenweg erarbeitet, von dem aus er versucht, naturwissenschaftliche Sichtweisen mit den anderen Erfahrungsmöglichkeiten des Menschen (Kunst, Meditation, Naturerlebnis etc.) in ein Panorama zu bringen, welches die vielschichtigen Lebenswelten in ihrer ganzen Fülle ausbreitet und erschließt. Es geht ihm um luzide und kommunizierbare Erfahrungen mystischer, transrationaler oder transpersonaler Art, nicht um vage und rein subjektive Traumgespinste. Wie sonst vielleicht nur der amerikanische Philosoph Ken Wilber, vereint Kirchhoff die unterschiedlichsten Lebenserfahrungen zu einer neuen Wahrnehmungskunst der "Wirklichkeit hinter der Wirklichkeit". Dass deren Erkenntnis alles andere als esoterischer Luxus ist, vielmehr Bedingung für das Fortexistieren des Lebewesens Erde und der Spezies Mensch, durchzieht jede Zeile seiner Schriften und verleiht seinen Büchern Weitsicht und einen Ernst, der in unserer an Oberflächlichkeiten reichen Zeit wohltut. Jochen Kirchhoff lebt als Philosoph in Berlin. Von 1990 bis 2002 lehrte er an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und von 1992 bis 2005 an der Berliner Lessing-Hochschule.Anmerkungen:
