Biography (Herta Müller)
Herta Müller, geb. 1953 im deutschsprachigen Nitzkydorf/Rumänien, studierte 1973-76 deutsche und rumänische Philologie in Temeswar. Nach dem Studium arbeitete sie als Übersetzerin in einer Maschinenfabrik. Sie wurde entlassen, weil sie sich weigerte für den rumänischen Geheimdienst Securitate zu arbeiten. Ihr erstes Buch 'Niederungen' lag danach 4 Jahre beim Verlag und wurde 1982 nur zensiert veröffentlicht. 1984 erschien es in der Originalfassung in Deutschland. Herta Müller konnte danach in Rumänien nicht mehr veröffentlichen und war immer wieder Verhören, Hausdurchsuchungen und Bedrohungen durch die Securitate ausgesetzt. 1987 Übersiedlung nach Deutschland. 1989-2001 Gastprofessuren an Universitäten in England, Amerika, Schweiz und Deutschland. Seit 1995 Mitglied der Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung, Darmstadt. Herta Müller wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet. So erhielt sie 2006 den Würth-Preis für Europäische Literatur für ihr literarisches Gesamtwerk, den Walther-Hasenclever-Werkpreis sowie die Ehrengabe der Heine-Gesellschaft. 2009 erhielt Herta Müller den Nobelpreis für Literatur und den Franz-Werfel-Menschenrechtspreis. 2010 wurde ihr der Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben-Preis für zeitkritische Literatur verliehen. Die Autorin lebt in Berlin.
